Are you aware of any complaints having been
made as to delay in paying out after sales?
II 80,
when and what action was taken?
At the very outside I have not heard of more than four complaints made before the 21st August, 1926. Written complaints would be addressed to the Registrar.
Solicitors have got into the habit of writing direct
to the Bailiff. Such complaints I should not see.
Since 21st August there have been great numbers of
complaints. On each occasion I went to Mr. Hill and
told him to see that the money was paid in the next day.
He duly reported payment and I was not suspicious of
anything being wrong.
I often used to ask the First Bailiff how
sales were going on and he replied, "Money rolling in."
On one occasion when I asked about delay he
said that when the auctioneer sold to a man he knew
to be sound he would allow a few days credit.
Are all auction sales advertized?
Yes. It is the bailiff's business to see that
advertisements are made. I believe it has always been
done. The accounts I have seen have always had copies
of the advertisements on the back.
The first employment of the Auctioneering and
Brokering Co., Ltd. as auctioneers was in about June
or July 1925?

Yes.
On whose suggestion were they first so employed?
On Hill's suggestion.
Our printed forms had Hughes and Hough's name
on them. I think that a number of orders were signed
by me to Hughes and Hough and I discovered afterwards that the Auctioneering and Brokering Co., Ltd. were
18.
